How to choose a portable power station
Choose a portable power station from the appliances, runtime, and installation context. Capacity in Wh and output in W answer different questions, and neither replaces an exact model check.
Sources and methodology
Source-based desk research and explicit calculations; no hands-on testing claimed. Missing values remain unknown. Installation compatibility needs a separate assessment.
List loads and runtime
Add running watts multiplied by hours for every appliance. Keep simultaneous continuous power and measured startup surge in separate columns. A station may store enough energy but still be unable to start a compressor or pump.
Check the complete model
Verify usable capacity assumptions, continuous and time-limited output, charging inputs, AC voltage and frequency, operating temperature, and the exact EU variant. Confirm every port needed by the intended appliances and read the supplier manual before purchase.
Separate portable use from fixed wiring
Powering selected appliances directly is not the same as connecting equipment to fixed building wiring. Transfer equipment, earthing, protection, cable routing, and local requirements need a competent installation assessment.
Worked case and decision
A router at 15 W, laptop at 60 W, and lights at 20 W running for four hours require 380 Wh before losses. With an illustrative 80% usable fraction and 92% conversion efficiency, nominal storage is about 516 Wh. That energy result does not size output power: check the loads that run together and any startup event separately. Round the requirement upward only after documenting the reserve, then compare exact EU models and their manuals. This is a reproducible planning example, not a tested customer installation.
Turn the explanation into a procurement brief
Record included and excluded loads, system voltage, simultaneous power, starting demand and required duration. Keep efficiency and seasonal assumptions beside the result. Compare only documented values for the exact model; a missing catalog field means it needs verification, not that a feature exists. Ask the supplier for the manual, Romania delivery terms and warranty procedure before ordering.
After selecting components, a qualified installer should verify cables, protection, source isolation, ventilation and site conditions. Do not use a worked energy example as wiring instructions. When changing a load or battery, revisit both the energy budget and power check. A supervised operating test should confirm assumptions without exceeding manufacturer limits.
