Off-grid cabin

For a cabin where every consumed kWh must be generated, stored or brought in as fuel.

Sources and methodology

Source-based desk research and explicit calculations; no hands-on testing claimed. Missing values remain unknown. Installation compatibility needs a separate assessment.

Typical loads

Build separate summer and winter budgets. Water pumping, refrigeration and communications often dominate essential electricity; resistive space heating can overwhelm a modest solar system.

System architecture

Solar → charge controller → protected battery bank → inverter and selected DC loads. A generator/charger can replenish storage during extended poor weather, with safe transfer and source interlocking.

Illustrative sizing

A 3 kWh/day AC budget with two days of autonomy needs about 8.15 kWh nominal storage at 80% usable depth and 92% conversion. This does not size the solar array: it must supply loads and recover the energy deficit.

Solar and generator

Use the weakest occupied month for design. Size recovery energy over an explicit number of good days. Generator operation must be outdoors away from occupied spaces and openings.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a final installation recommendation?

No. Verify model manuals, actual loads, protection and site conditions with a qualified professional. Calculations and equipment classes are preliminary planning aids.

Where do I buy and who sets the price?

Purchase is with the external supplier, who controls price, delivery, inventory and returns. Confirm delivery to Romania before ordering. Commercial disclosure →
